Bio/Description

Justin Cai is a senior in the Civil and Environmental Engineering department with certificates in Statistics and Machine Learning and Applications of Computing. His interests lie in remote sensing, machine learning, geography, earth systems, urban systems, and sustainability. He is fascinated by the interface between engineering, geosciences, remote sensing, and machine learning. His past research includes mapping Indian agricultural crop burning using machine learning, applying physics-informed neural networks towards Antarctic ice shelves, and mapping landslide susceptibility in Colorado using geospatial data science. For his senior thesis, he is designing a machine learning-based surrogate fluid dynamics model to promote the cultural heritage preservation of a historic Japanese waterway. Outside of academics, he can be found running, mountaineering, reading, and playing pool and ping-pong with friends.
