Water plays important a wide variety of roles in a range of environmental processes including the contamination of ecosystems by persistent hazardous chemicals, the availability of safe drinking water, the Earth's heat and carbon cycles, the survival of coral reefs and other biocalcifying organisms, etc. The objective of this course is to understand how principles of aquatic chemistry that form the basis of many environmental problems and solutions emerge from simple features and fundamental properties of individual water molecules.
