Registrar description
Earth's biosphere sustains ecosystems through exchanges of energy, water, carbon dioxide, and other trace gases with the atmosphere. This course examines how these interactions affect weather, climate, air pollution, vegetation, and natural and urban environments. Through lectures, readings, data analysis, and one-dimensional computer models, students will investigate processes ranging from individual leaves and soil plots to landscapes and regions. Hands-on exercises and a final research project will develop skills for evaluating environmental change and strategies to reduce warming, urban heat, air pollution, and related risks.
