Risk Analysis introduces the fundamentals of probabilistic risk analysis for engineering, environmental, and geoscience systems. Topics include stochastic modeling of natural hazards, extreme value analysis, vulnerability modeling, reliability analysis, and decision analysis for risk management. Case studies focus on natural hazards, such as hurricanes, storm surge, flooding, earthquakes, and climate change-driven extremes, and their impacts on infrastructure, economic losses, and society. In a final project, students use Earth system observations and models to develop cost-effective coastal resilience strategies under climate change.
